Nifty Nha Trang

After a couple days we left Dalat and returned to the coast. Our next stop was a fairly large city called Nha Trang. It looked so nice that we decided to spend a little time here before heading further up the coast.

On our first day we did a little sightseeing. We visited the Long Son Pagoda.

It housed statues of both Buddha and the Hindu God Shiva (below).

The monks chanting their mantras.

A lying down Buddha statue...

...looking very peaceful.

This Buddha statue was built in 1963 in hopes that it would help bring peace to Vietnam.

A cycad, providing some much needed shade.

A storage place for the ashes of monks that were cremated over the last several hundred years.

An elderly Vietnamese lady who was begging for change in the temple grounds.

Next we went to the Cham Temple.

We watched these ladies perform a traditional fan dance.

A priceless image of an Asian tourist.

The Cham Goddess of fertility, whose lactating breasts promise a bountiful rice harvest.

The next day we went on the 'Amazing Snorkelling Tour'. They took 16 of us out on a big wooden boat to go snorkelling at Mun Island. On the way, there were beautiful views of Nha Trang's coastline.

We spent about 3 hours snorkelling at a couple different sites around the island. The marine life was abundant and far exceeded our expectations. There was a large array of colourful corals and many weird and beautiful fish. The species composition was very different than in Thailand. We even spotted a moray eel.

We also had a lot of fun jumping into the water from the top deck of the boat.

They prepared a wonderful feast for us for lunch, with lots of different seafood and vegetables.

On our way back we passed the cable car leading to Vinpearl island, which takes tourist from the mainland to visit the Vinpearl Amusement Park.

Overall, we had a wonderful day and felt we had gotten excellent value for our $13 snorkelling trip.
