Natural Nong Khiaw

The next day we headed to the small town of Nong Khiaw and found a nice riverside guesthouse to stay in for only $7 a night.

The view was spectacular.

A late night visitor to our room.

The next day was Chelsea's birthday and so we booked a tour to a nearby waterfall.

The boatman picked us up from our hotel and took us on a lovely hour long cruise down the river.

We soon arrived at a small village where we were introduced to our two guides that would be taking us to the waterfall. We estimated they were probably between 10 and 13 years old.

We followed our guides along a very muddy trail beside the rice paddies, and then through the jungle.

After about an hour we arrived at a river with beautiful waterfalls all along it.

We walked in the river, up through the many small waterfalls.

We eventually arrived at the big waterfall, where we ate our packed lunch of sticky rice and tasty eggplant paste.

We cooled off in the refreshing water.

After awhile we carefully made our way back down the river.

Strange jungle fruit.

Butterflies!

Praying mantis!

Overall it was a great Laos birthday adventure.
